School Library Journal
June 1, 2003
Gr 2-4-These three books describe the basic rules, skills, and important people in their respective sports. Each one includes a time line and an interesting array of trivia facts. Font size is large enough for beginning readers, yet the sentence structure and vocabulary clearly elucidate without talking down to the intended audience. Pages are attractively laid out with colorful photos across the spreads. However, despite a young person on each cover, the illustrations in Football and Baseball show a preponderance of older male players, from high schoolers to professionals. Update your sports sections with these winners.-Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VACopyright 2003 School Library Journal, LLC Used with permission.
